There is no shortage of beautiful places to stay in Newport so it really comes down to what you need and how much you want to spend.
We have been lucky enough to spend lots of weekends in Newport with our kids and we love it. We are passing our knowledge onto you so you can make the best decision on places to stay in Newport.
Here are the best picks depending on your occasion!
If you are going away for a romantic weekend:
Bayberry Inn is one of the best little inns in Newport because it is charming and modern at the same time. The rooms look like they have each been designed by a interior decorator and are calm and large.
The breakfasts are served in a sunny dining room and are plentiful and yummy.
Plus the inn is only for adults, so you can truly relax. (And you can think fondly of your kids you left at home.)

If you are traveling with your kids:
Club Wyndham Long Wharf
We had the pleasure of staying here recently and we all want to go back next weekend! We booked a suite with a kitchen, living room, and 2 bedrooms so there was plenty of space to spread out. They also have a heated outdoor pool, a movie room and a game room.
We brought food, games, puzzles, books, and we only left when we had to check out. (This was written in Jan. 2021 so covid was ongoing and we wanted to be safe.)
We are planning a repeat trip!

If you are going for a girls trip:
Gurney’s Newport Resort and Marina
If you are having a girl’s weekend this is the place to stay! This dazzling hotel is on its very own island, Goat Island. It is 1 mile from downtown Newport. Being a little bit away from downtown is worth it because the views are so spectacular!
You can book a double room with double beds and have the sofa so you can fit 5 of you in there! The rooms are spacious and comfortable.
You will love chic common areas that include a restaurant, a bar and a lounge. The pool is fabulous with little cabanas all around as well as a pool side bar.
I love this for a girls weekend because is very upscale and is the best price for a group of more than 4 in the area.

If you need the cheapest hotel that won’t scare you:
I’ll be honest, there is no such things as a cheap hotel in Newport in the summer, but there are some that are under $200 per night.
This is my pick for cheapest that is also clean, highly rated, and convenient to town.
This inn is conveniently located on Bellevue Avenue (the road that leads to Newport Mansions.) and has tons of shopping and restaurants within walking distance.
The inn has very different rooms depending on what you need and feels very like a bed and breakfast. The rooms are quaint and personal, but they are also quite a bit smaller than the other hotels above.
Customers rate their service as superb and love the location.

If you really want to save money you can also stay in nearby Middletown. They have many more chain hotels which drives the prices lower.
Middletown is not nearly as charming as Newport, but if you are just sleeping do you really need it to be?
