1. What to look for when booking a family hotels in Los Angeles
Los Angeles is a great vacation destination for families and finding a great hotel makes the vacation even better! Keep these things in mind when looking for a hotel:
– Price. It’s important to keep your budget in mind, but don’t sacrifice quality just to save a few dollars. If you are spending time at the pool or the beach and not venturing out every day, you may want to spend more money for something nicer.
– Location. Keep your family’s lifestyle in mind. There are hotels near or on the beach for people who like to spend time outside, and if your favorite part of vacation is shopping you will want something close to attractions like Santa Monica Pier or the LA farmer’s market where you can buy all kinds of memorabilia! You may want to find a great hotel to stay in that is convenient for day trips from LA.
– Amenities. Think about what amenities are most important to your family. Do you want a pool? One or two bedrooms? Somewhere to cook? Great restaurants?
– Reviews. Read reviews about different hotels before committing to one. To learn how to read between the lines on hotel reviews check out my awesome ebook!
2. Different types of family hotels in LA
A family hotel is any hotel that has rooms large enough for a family and has an amenity or two that your kids will enjoy. You will find some high end hotels that have rooftop pools, fancy lounges and more. We also have included 1960’s style hotels that look down on a pool in the courtyard and have awesome balconies. Plus we have included some hotels right near the beach that are laid back and calm.
Each hotel we picked offers the ability for 5 people to sleep in one room. (2 parents and 3 children) These hotels have bigger rooms that most and are highly rated for family stays.
These are just a few different types of family hotels in Los Angeles that will suit your needs while still keeping everyone happy!!
3. Location of the hotels
Where do you want to be in Los Angeles? This city is huge! Not only do you want to stay somewhere safe you also want to stay near the attractions you will be visiting because traffic is very congested. If you are planning on staying near the beach, keep in mind that these places will be crowded during summer time.
My personal favorite locations for family friendly hotels are Beverly Hills, Westwood, West Hollywood (if you have older kids), Santa Monica, Pasadena and Glendale. They are all around LA but these places are very different from each other so it is best if you do your research before choosing somewhere to stay.
Have fun while you are here! Los Angeles can be quite overwhelming for first timers who don’t know the city at all, but hopefully this article gets you started! There is a lot of history behind this amazing city that people should experience for themselves! This city has everything anyone could want or need when they vacation in California–so take advantage of that!!
4. Cost per night
Los Angeles is not the place to visit if you want cheap hotel options but if you want to stay in the city and visit all that this amazing place has to offer, then price is something you will have to consider.
If you just need your cost to be as low as possible you might have to budge on location and stay outside of Los Angeles in Orange County or near the airport and drive in to do things.
The best family friendly hotels in Los Angeles
The Garland Hotel in North Hollywood
This hotel offers luxury accommodations, great service and a location that is easy to get to from many parts of Los Angeles. Located in North Hollywood this hotel is quiet but still close enough to all the action! They offer family rooms that sleep up to five people- perfect for families.
The 1960’s vibe here is laidback enough for a family to feel comfortable and the outdoor pool will give your little ones lots of place to let off some steam.
I love that they offer a shuttle to Universal Studios Hollywood so that you don’t have to wait in an hour long line to park!
Mondrian Los Angeles in West Hollywood
This hotel is one of my personal favorites! The Mondrian Los Angeles offers contemporary rooms with luxurious amenities and views of West Hollywood. The hotel is in walking distance of Melrose Avenue and great shopping and restaurants. (Something teenagers would love!)

Kimpton Hotel Palomar Los Angeles in Westwood
This hotel is for the trendy traveler–perfect for young adults, business travelers or a family of hipsters! The Kimpton Hotel Palomar offers rooms with flat screen TVs and wireless Internet access. Rooms have been recently renovated and some even have kitchenettes which is a great perk when you want to save money by cooking brunch in your room instead of going out for breakfast each morning.
The location is absolutely perfect for most visitors as well. It is close to Hollywood, Beverly Hills, UCLA, and Brentwood allowing you to visit so many great neighborhoods.
The rooftop pool has amazing views of the Hollywood sign and Hollywood Hills!
Renaissance Los Angeles Airport Hotel in Los Angeles
This hotel offers luxury accommodations that are perfect for a family or business traveler and a great place to stay if you get in late on your flight.
The rooms here are very spacious allowing your family lots of room to spread out when traveling with children! This is a great hotel for toddlers as there is tons or free space allowing them to get out their wiggles.
There are many amenities at this hotel including an amazing restaurant a rooftop pool and lots of lounge areas.
The best thing about the airport hotels is that they are generally 20%-30% less expensive than hotels in Los Angeles proper and you can be in Hollywood in 30-40 minutes. Plus they tend to have more room in the bedrooms and free parking!
Hilton Santa Monica
This hotel is not located directly in Los Angeles but is still close enough if you need to do something that requires a car or taxi. Just down the street from the iconic Santa Monica Pier this hotel offers excellent service and great rooms with amazing views of the ocean!
This place also has a pool which kids will love-when they aren’t at the beach which is only 3 blocks away! You are also close to the Santa Monica Pier and the amusement park.
Fairmont Miramar Hotel & Bungalows in Santa Monica
This hotel is a great option if you want to feel like you are in your own private wonderland. You can stay in the hotel but I really recommend a bungalow room. This place is amazing because you really feel like you are in a true beach bungalow!
The rooms are decorated with white wicker furniture and bright pops of color. The guest rooms have high ceilings, bamboo floors, sitting areas, . Most bungalows have private outdoor patios or balconies where you can sit back and relax.
My favorite part about this hotel is that the pool area feels so secret because it is hidden from view by tropical foliage!
This hotel also offers great proximity to all things Santa Monica! From shopping on Third Street Promenade to dining at restaurants on Montana Ave-this place has it all!!
Reserve your stay here
Petit Ermitage Hotel
If you want the best rooftop patio in all of Los Angeles then this is it. I have personally stayed here and it is perfection. The pool and the surrounding area will make you feel like a true Hollywood star.
The rooms and amenities here are out of this world too! It feels like a quaint BnB in the Hollywood Hills–minus the BnB price tag!
This hotel is always high on my list of places to stay when I travel to LA. It’s so fun and gives you a true sense of luxury living right in the heart of all things Hollywood!
You can never go wrong with staying at a family friendly hotel that offers suites instead of just rooms. This allows your family lots of room to spread out and relax which is especially great if you have little ones!!
The Beverly Laurel Motor Hotel
This motel offers free parking, air conditioning, cable TV, HBO, wireless Internet access and features a courtyard pool with outdoor patio available to guests!
The Motel is very 1960’s Hollywood and is a charming blast from the past while still feeling like a boutique hotel. Simple and clean with plenty of room.
Plus it is one of the cheapest stays in Los Angeles proper while still being a very comfortable and relaxing place to stay.
If you want to get a taste of retro-LA this is the place to go!!
SLS Hotel, Beverly Hills
This may not be your first thought when traveling to LA with your kids but we stayed here on our most recent trip to Los Angeles and the kids were in heaven.
The SLS Hotel is a very cool and modern hotel. It offers all sorts of amenities including a rooftop pool area, enormous bathtubs in each room and spectacular views of the city.
Not only is this hotel kid-friendly but has the nicest staff I have ever encountered. They were so kind to the kids and bent over backwards to make our stay wonderful.
One of the coolest things about this place is all the fun artsy touches that make the whole place seem more approachable. If your kids are into Instagram then they will love all the cool art deco decor throughout this hotel!
No matter which of these Los Angeles Hotels you choose you are sure to have a great family vacation in fabulous accommodations. Each one is unique and each LA hotel is great for kids.
