How Long Do You need to visit each?

Cinque Terre and the Amalfi Coast can be visited in one day; however, at the end of the day, you will have seen all of Cinque Terre and just barely seen some of the Amalfi Coast. If you plan to make one of these areas your home base, you will find yourself bored with Cinque Terre much more quickly.

The Amalfi Coast is near Naples, Pompeii, and southern Italy. While Cinque Terre is near Genoa and almost 3 hours from Florence, making it hard to see more of Italy in a day trip.

 

For Cinque Terre, you need a day or two at the most to see everything you want.

For the Amalfi Coast, you need 2-4 days to see everything you want.

What is my choice? If I had to choose one to visit, I would choose……Cinque Terre. Cinque Terre still feels a little rustic, like real people live and work there. The Amalfi Coast is almost too manicured in spots. Plus, the traffic in the Amalfi Coast is so bad it can take an hour to get from place to place.
