Independence Hall

You can’t visit Philadelphia without stopping by Independence Hall, where the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution were signed. Take a guided tour to learn about the building’s history and see where the founding fathers debated and signed these important documents.

Independence Hall is free to visit, but if you want to ensure you have tickets for your visit, you can pay $1 to reserve them ahead of time.

Liberty Bell

Another iconic symbol of American history, the Liberty Bell, was part of our country’s founding. Learn about the bell’s history and significance at Independence National Historical Park.

This is a free site to visit.

Betsy Ross House

Visit the home of Betsy Ross, the woman who sewed the first American flag. Take a tour of the house and learn about her life and contributions to American history.

The tiny little house is one of my favorites in Philadelphia, and the tour is well worth the price.

Franklin Court

Explore the site of Benjamin Franklin’s home and workshop. The Franklin Museum houses archaeological remains of the house and offers a chance to learn about Franklin’s life and inventions.

While not a lot still stands, it is still a great place to visit.

National Constitution Center

The National Constitution Center is a museum dedicated to the history and the events around the US Constitution. Visitors can learn about the document’s history, significance, and impact on American society through interactive exhibits and programs.

There are many rotating exhibits, and it is a great way to learn more about the Constitution before visiting Independence Hall.

US Mint Tour

The U.S. Mint in Philadelphia offers a tour where visitors can watch coins being made, learn about the coins we use every day, and see rare and historic coins.

Open Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM, except on federal holidays, the tour is free of charge. Visitors should be prepared for security screenings and note that large bags, food, and drinks are not allowed inside. Photography is typically restricted in production areas.

Spruce Street Harbor Park

Spruce Street Harbor Park is a great place to relax during the summer. Plus it is all lit up at night, making it a great place to meet up with friends. Located on the Delaware River waterfront, this park offers a variety of activities for all ages. You can lounge in a hammock, play mini-golf, or enjoy a refreshing drink at the beer garden. The park also hosts live music and events throughout the summer.

Schuylkill River Trail

If you are a biking or walking enthusiast, the Schuylkill River Trail is a great way to experience Philadelphia’s natural beauty. This 30-mile trail follows the Schuylkill River and offers stunning views of the city skyline. You can stop at various parks and attractions, including the Philadelphia Museum of Art and Boathouse Row.

Fairmount Park

Fairmount Park is one of the country’s largest urban parks and offers endless outdoor opportunities. You can hike or bike on the park’s many trails, picnic, or fish in one of the park’s lakes. Reading Terminal Market

If you’re looking for a one-stop shop for all your food cravings,  Reading Terminal Market is for you. This indoor market has been around for over 125 years, with over 80 vendors offering various food options. From Philly cheesesteaks to fresh seafood, Asian dumplings to bakeries, there are endless choices.

Grab an apple dumpling from the Amish bakery and you will be delighted.

Italian Market

For a taste of Italy in Philly, head to the Italian Market. This historic outdoor market has been around since the late 1800s and offers various Italian specialties. You’ll find it all from fresh pasta to artisanal cheeses to homemade cannolis. Don’t miss out on the famous Philly-style tomato pie from Sarcone’s Bakery.

Philadelphia Museum of Art

Barnes Foundation

The Barnes Foundation is another art museum worth visiting. Please Touch Museum

It’s perfect for kids aged seven and under, and there are plenty of exhibits that will keep them entertained. Some highlights include a mini cityscape, a water play area, and a fire truck. This is a fabulous place for kids to get their wiggles out.

Franklin Institute

The Franklin Institute is a science museum perfect for school-aged kids through adults. Its amazing exhibits teach kids about everything from physics to biology. Some highlights include a planetarium, a giant heart you can walk through, and a virtual reality experience.

The Philadelphia Zoo is home to over 1,300 animals from all over the world. Your kids will love seeing lions, tigers, and bears up close and more exotic animals like kangaroos and sloths. Plenty of interactive exhibits will teach your kids about animal behavior and conservation. Don’t miss the Zoo360 animal exploration trail, which lets you see animals like gorillas and lemurs from a unique perspective.

Phillies Games at Citizens Bank Park

If you’re a baseball fan, you won’t want to miss a Phillies game at Citizens Bank Park. The stadium is located in South Philadelphia and offers beautiful views of the city skyline. You can enjoy a cold beer and a hot dog while watching the game, and plenty of food options exist. Check the schedule and get your tickets in advance, as games can sell out quickly.

RiverRink Summerfest

The RiverRink Summerfest is a great place to cool off on a hot summer day. Located on Penn’s Landing, this outdoor roller skating rink offers beautiful views of the Delaware River. There are also carnival games, food trucks, and a beer garden. If you’re not into roller skating, you can still enjoy the atmosphere and walk along the river.

Kayaking on the Delaware

If you’re looking for a more active way to enjoy the Delaware River, consider renting a kayak. Several rental companies are located along the river, and you can paddle your way through the city and enjoy the sights from a different perspective. Just be sure to wear sunscreen and bring plenty of water, as it can get hot out on the water.

Museum of the American Revolution

If you’re a history buff, you don’t want to miss the Museum of the American Revolution. It’s a great place to learn about the American Revolution and the country’s founding. With interactive exhibits, artifacts, and multimedia presentations, you’ll get a real sense of life during this critical time in American history. Adventure Aquarium

The Adventure Aquarium is one of the best aquariums in the US to learn about marine life and conservation. With over 8,500 animals, including sharks, sea turtles, and penguins, you’ll have the opportunity to get up close and personal with some of the ocean’s most fascinating creatures. The aquarium also has interactive exhibits, including a touch tank where you can touch and feed stingrays. Don’t miss the “Shark Bridge,” a suspension bridge that takes you over a tank filled with sharks. It’s not for the faint of heart!
