Hammocks are the best way to get your child out of the house and interacting with something other than the computer! This blast from the past is making a big comeback and you will want to get one for your kids.
Why would my kid want a hammock? I asked the same thing a year ago. To me hammocks are something my grandparents liked to relax on. They were big, uncomfortable and often macrame.
We went to visit my sister in Utah and saw that they had 3 or 4 hammocks set up between the posts of their pergola and the kids were in them constantly! Just relaxing, texting, reading, you name it they were in love.

The 4 types of hammocks available for kids
There are so many different types of hammocks available for kids, but you should consider what they will be using it for before you purchase one. The type that will work best for your child may not be the same as someone else’s.
I took a look at some online reviews and did some research to help narrow down which ones were the best for kids to use.
Here are the most common types:
1. Rope hammocks – these hammocks are made from cotton or synthetic rope and can hold up to 400 pounds! These work great because they don’t stretch like the nylon ones do, and since they weigh less than other products you can carry them wherever you go. Perfect for camping! They also dry fast which is important if you decide to leave one outside overnight after a rainstorm.
2. Nylon parachute fabric – these hammocks take about 2 minutes or less to set up and will last years. However, the material stretches over time so it’s not ideal for someone who wants something that holds its form even without any in it. The price on these is also great, so if you want something that looks good and works good but doesn’t cost an arm and a leg then this is the one for your kids!
3. Mayan or Nicaraguan – these hammocks are extremely cool because they feature colorful patterns on white fabric. They’re not just for decoration either – what sets them apart is how easy it is to fold them up when you are finished with them. You can take them anywhere with ease since you don’t have to worry about the material stretching out of shape or getting caught on anything!
4. Hammock chairs– these chairs are a cross between a swing and a hammock making them fun for all ages. They are a great hammock to hang inside in your kids room or out on the patio near the pool. You probably wouldn’t take them camping as they aren’t as easy to mount, but they are a great addition to your home.
